Past Exhibit Lanny Bergner: May 11 - July 2, 2009 Un/Natural Construct, a sculpture Installation at the MU George Caleb Bingham Gallery, and Coalesce, a companion exhibition of sculptural objects at Landmark Bank, will open in May. These two exhibitions occur concurrently with eight additional exhibitions as part of the Second Biannual Fiber Art Tour and Exhibitions (FATE) (www.fatecolumbia.com). Lanny Bergner is an internationally known artist who uses hands-on processes of coiling, fraying, twisting, wrapping, gluing and knotting to transform industrial screening, wire, silicone and monofilament into organic constructions. His goal is to create individual sculptures and site-specific installations that appear to have grown into being. He loves the natural world and is constantly inspired by its beauty and infinite varieties of form. This, in combination with his fears, quirks and joys, results in works that celebrate the wonder of it all. Bergner’s work is included in many collections. Among them are the Museum of Art and Design, NY; Cheongju International Craft Biennale, Cheongju-City, Korea (2005); the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA; Museum of Northwest Art, La Conner, WA; and First National Bank, Columbia, MO. Among the many awards he has received the Gold Prize, for the 4th Annual Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Cheongju, Korea (2005) is one of the most prestigious. His work is represented by several galleries, and he has participated in numerous one-person and group shows including International Triennial of Tapestry, Lodz, Poland (2010), National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny, Ireland (2005). The exhibitions, lecture and reception are free and open to the public. more info on Fiber Arts Tour & Exhibits (FATE)
