Daddy's Hands September 18 - October 5, 2006 The George Caleb Bingham Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition, Daddy's Hands by renowned artist, Joe Bussell. His pieces consists of both sculpture and assemblages. The exhibition will run from Monday, September 18th through Thursday October 5th with a closing reception scheduled from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. October 5th. Both the reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. Mr. Bussell received his BFA in Painting from Kansas University in 1979 and his MFA in both Painting and Ceramics from Washington University in St. Louis in 1991 where he was on the art faculty for five years. In the early 80’s, he became involved with the HIV/AIDS community in a variety of ways. He was a staff member of the SAVE Home (an AIDS hospice), a facilitator for hospice volunteers and art program coordinator. During this time, his art was exhibited over 20 times, including three solo exhibits at the TAI Gallery in NYC. His work has been reviewed in a variety of magazines and newspapers, most notably; US News & World Report, the New Art Examiner and The New York Native. In 1997, he worked for Harcourt Brace Publishing in London, England. He returned to Kansas City in 2001 and taught ceramics at Johnson County Community College from 2001-2003. In April 2003, he had a show at the MoMO Gallery in the East Crossroads Art District in Kansas City, MO and a solo show at the Carnegie Arts Center in Leavenworth, KS in 2005. Following his show here at the Bingham Gallery, he will have a solo show at the Leedy Voulkos Art Center in Kansas City starting November 3rd, 2006.
