Lifetime Achievement Showcase: Part One

Lifetime Achievement Showcase - Part One, is a two-part exhibition highlighting the creative research of six of MU Art Department’s Professor Emeriti. The show is a retrospective of paintings, prints, drawings, illustrations, ceramic sculpture and photography produced by these artists throughout their careers.

Berry illustrationWilliam A. Berry’s work consists of drawings, paintings, illustrations and photographs, which have been shown in over 500 exhibitions and many publications in the United States and abroad. He has received over 100 awards and prizes for drawings in juried exhibitions. He has also received several distinguished awards. He was awarded the Curator’s Professor, the highest honor awarded to a faculty member (1991); the Byler Distinguished Professor (1989); the Outstanding Faculty Research and Creative Activity in the Creative Performing Arts and the Humanities(1983).

Schuchard illustrationOliver Schuchard has worked in the medium of photography since 1967. He has studied with some of the best photographers of the 20th century (i.e. Ansel Adams, Al Weber, Cole Weston and Imogene Cunningham). His photographs have been shown in over 200 exhibitions and in numerous private and public collections including the Smithsonian, The White House and American Museum of Folk Art. Several photography books about his photography have been published through the University Press. He has been the recipient of the William T. Kemper Award for Excellence in Teaching at MU (1992); the Curators Award for Scholarly Excellence (2005); and the UMC Alumni Award (1991).

Bussabarger illustrationRobert F. Bussabarger’s career in the visual arts spans over six decades. His chosen media includes clay, bronze, watercolor, pastel, acrylic and oil. His paintings, ceramics and ceramic sculpture are represented in private collections throughout the United States and abroad, particularly in India. For the past thirty years he has lectured widely on art and most recently he has delivered numerous illustrated lectures based on extensive research in Indian Art. His book, The Everyday Art of India is considered one of the best on traditional Indian Arts and Crafts.

All three of these Professor Emeriti have served as Chair of the MU Art Department during their tenure. Each professor featured in this two-part exhibition has made important contributions to his chosen field of research and each of them has had a lasting impact on students and colleagues. This exhibition celebrates their careers and pays homage to them for their contributions to the MU Department of Art and campus at large through a retrospective lens.

Part two of this exhibition will feature Professors Emeriti Lawrence Rugolo, Frank Stack and Larry Kantner (July 14-August 7, 2008).
