Past Exhibit "Endangered Species" May 29 - August 9, 2007 The George Caleb Bingham Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition “Endangered Species” by renowned artist Carol LeBaron. Carol’s exhibition is an emotional response to issues of environmental degradation as seen through a multicultural and multi-media lense. She views the human race as an endangered species. Carol expresses human impact on natural forms and the internal landscape of the psyche using images taken from photographs of devastation caused by acid rain, warfare and other environmental pressures. She combines these with images of plant forms and cell structures. She expresses her response to these themes through resist dyed and felted hangings & jacquard weavings that use a variety of digital processes, hand stitch and resist dye. The exhibit will run from Tuesday, May 29, through Thursday, August 9, 2007. A reception will be held in the Bingham Gallery Monday, June 4th, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm with a gallery talk by the artist scheduled at 2:30 pm. This reception is in conjunction with The Fiber Art Tour & Exhibits (FATE), where delegates from The International Surface Design Association will be touring eleven other downtown art venues earlier that day. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. The gallery is located on the corner of Hitt Street and University Avenue in the Fine Arts Building. Summer gallery hours are 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. |
