Past Exhibit MFA Thesis Exhibitions: Banal: Sculptural Meditations on the Unfamiliar, featuring sculptures and installations by Eric Zamuco. March 16 - April 3, 2009 This exhibition is an opportunity to see artworks catalyzed by the displaced experience. Leonor, who is from Ecuador and Eric from the Philippines, take different approaches in expressing their need to grasp the immaterial in their circumstances of neither being here nor there. Leonor’s images from constructed narrative scenes address the uncanny in the mundane and the uncertainty of her cross-cultural experience. Her photographic language intimates the sense of belonging and not belonging. On the other hand, Eric uses banal materiality in his sculptures and everyday gestures in video performances to draw meaning and collective spiritual perspectives from the unfamiliar challenges in navigating American society. Both exhibitions are in partial fulfillment of the Master of Fine Arts Degree requirements and feature the culmination of three years of the artists’ creative researches. The exhibitions and reception are both free and open to the public. |
