Home-made Home: Invented Objects of Nostalgic Longing is an exhibit of new sculptures by artist Hannah Reeves. Relief wall pieces and freestanding sculptures fill the gallery, their forms and placement mimicking qualities of a nostalgically remembered home. Hannah Reeves, candidate for Master of Fine Arts, works with various media, such as found household objects, upholstery fabric, and home-baked bread, to create her sculptures. This exhibit is in partial fulfillment of the requirements for her degree.

Familiar, memory-evoking objects bring about nostalgia. When these recognizable items are distorted, disassembled, reinvented, and strangely displayed, however, a viewer must reconsider the nostalgic experience. The sculptures of artist Hannah Reeves are a precarious balance of the familiar and the estranged. Her exhibit is a space for viewers to reflect upon home, memory, and the problems of nostalgia.

This exhibition will be held from Monday, April 7 to Thursday, May 1, 2008. A reception will be held on Sunday, April 13 in the George Caleb Bingham Gallery from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. A special Graduate & Professional Council Gallery Reception and Artist’s Talk will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
