Facing Home: Watercolors and Drawings from Mississippi
James M. Miller V

James M. Miller V, Professor of Acting, Directing, Costume Design, Musical Theatre Performance and Stage Movement. Professor Miller studied at Herbert Berghoff Studios, Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design and the School for the Visual Arts in New York. He directs, choregraphs and designs for University Theatre, MU’s Summer Repertory Theatre, Tulane University’s Summer Lyric Theatre and the Arrowrock Lyceum Theatre. His costumes have been featured in the International Exhibit of Design for the United States Institute of Theatre Technology.

Professor Miller received a three-month sabbatical grant allowing his return to his hometown of Woodville, Mississippi to paint people of all ages, races and social strata. By the end of the sabbatical, he had produced over 150 painting and drawings, which were character studies of people he grew up with or had met for the first time during this project.

Artist’s Reception: Friday, July 24, 2009, 5-7 pm (in conjunction with Artrageous Friday). Refreshments will be served. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
